Unsustainable development is among the biggest global problems of our time.
Sustainable development is shaped both by public regulation and by business practice. States play a key role through the laws and regulations they adopt at national and international level. However, as underlined in Agenda 2030 introducing the UN Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, sustainable development cannot be achieved without action by companies and the business community. The responsibilities of states and companies complement each other, and both are essential for achieving sustainable development.
